TDS on payment to transporter

24 August 2009 Hello Experts,

As per changes of new Budget 2009, no tds is required to deduct for payment made to Transporters who provides PAN No. This is to be effective with 01.10.2009.

Can somebody clarify me on this??

24 August 2009 As per Budget 2009-10, it is declared that if a transporter provides PAN in his bill then no TDS is to be deducted from its bill from 1.10.09.

and if the PAN is wrong then TDS @ 20% is to be deducted w.e.f.1.4.2010.
for more clarification,you can refer journal of CA institute or any direct tax books like ready recknor etc.

24 August 2009 I agree with Hiral Ji. To add, if the transporter does not provide PAN, even in that case the TDS shall be deducted @ 20%.
