Tds on freight payments

13 January 2014 Sir,
We are paying freight to our local distributor for supplying goods and he is not having transport agency but is charging freight along with purchase amount in bills. Do we need to obatin TAN no. and report such freight payments in TDS returns.

13 January 2014 Not TAN but PAN no.
yes PAN no and payment details should be intimated in TDS Return.

13 January 2014 THANKS YOU SIR. ACTUALLY WE HAVE NOT YET APPLIED FOR TAN NO.AS NO OTHER PAYMENT IS LIABLE FOR TAX DEDUCTION.SO WE SHOULD FIRST OBTAIN TAN NO. AND THEN FILE NIL TDS RETURNS

13 January 2014 If the single payment made on account of freight is not more than Rs.30000 at one time and the aggregate freight paid during the financial year to same party does not exceed Rs. 75000 then no need to obtain TAN. Otherwise, you will have to apply for TAN and file the returns showing payments made without TDS.
