TDS on Book Binding Work

03 November 2010 Dear Sir,

we have in receipt a Bil of Rs. 23856/-from a Book Binder for binding books in our company premises.

I want to know that TDS is applicable or not on this bill.

If applicable then what % of tax, we should deduct from his bill.

03 November 2010 first thing it is a service or trading.

If you purchased the books from the other person then it is trading.

or first if u given the books then he binds that books or he writes ur name then it is called.

in the second situation TDS will attract u/s 194C i.e.2%

04 November 2010 TDS is applicable u/s 194C @ 2% on book binding if books supplied by you.

Book binding charges is subject to TDS under section 194C. However in this case, tds need not be made as the bill amount is not exceeding Rs. 30000.00
