09 February 2011 Dear Experts,

Kindly suggest, whether I must pay total tax payable at the time of return filing as self assessment tax or a part of it may be paid at a later date.

Also please let me know, if it can be paid at a later date what would be the nature (i.e, self asstt.tax or other).

09 February 2011 Self assessment tax has to be paid in full before filing the return. If not paid, though filing can be done, penalty provisions u/s 221(1) will attract.

09 February 2011 Self assessment tax will have to be deposited before filing the retun. A return without Self assessment challan will be a defective return.

If the self asst. tax has not been paid in full before the date of filing of return, can the balance amount payable be paid at a later date.

09 February 2011 Undoubtedly it has to be paid and can be payable at a latter date also subject to Mr. Moondra's and my earlier observations.
