16 February 2011 Tax invoice is an invoice which complies with the requirement of VAT regulation of respective state.

Excise invoice is which is in compliance of the provisions of central Excise Rules.

Retail invoice is an invoice issued by retialer as per VAT regulation.

Excise invoice and Tax Invoice / retail invoice can be same.
