The concept of Statutory Meeting has been dropped under the companies act, 2013.
However a public limited company incorporated & received certificate of commencement of business (CCOB) before 31st March, 2014, is required to hold its statutory meeting as per the provisions of the companies Act, 1956 because at that time the provisions of the section 165 were in force.

Yes position of section 165 has not been clarified in companies act 2013. So technically the concept and requirement is still there.
