Can some one tell me when sd is written at the place of signature in a letter then why no signature is required manually??

Because SD/- means that whenever, signed copies will be demanded by any authority then at that moment we can provide that copy. So, we can say that this is a sort of guarantee that we maintain signed copy as well in our records.

SD means signature done on original copy.
