Service tax on transportation by road

12 December 2012 Dear all

I working in propreitership firm and we are manufacturer/traders,we have paid 3.45 lacs inward freight and more then 7 lacs outward freight but we have not paid any service tax on this exp pls write the how to calculate of service tax and can be applicable on propreitership concern

12 December 2012 Service Tax is liable to be paid by the consignor
or consignee in specified cases, are applicable even after the introduction of negative list
Any person who pays or is liable to pay freight either himself or through his agent for the
transportation of such goods by road in a goods carriage.
On freight charges mentioned in L/R

but my case our transpoter not deduct or paid any service tax to govt. thats way i want to know this is our liabilities to deposit the tax if yes then what is calculation or ( can be mandatory for propietorship)
