Service tax on transportation

15 January 2014 Our Company's turnover is below 1.5 Crore. We are not registered in Excise & service tax. And we are paying Freight Charges for goods transported. Is it necessary to take Service Tax Number for paying Service Tax on Goods transport agency?

15 January 2014 The tax is payable on reverse charge basis by consignor or consignee who ever pays the freight, if the consignor or the consignee is :
Factory, registered society, co-operative society, registered dealer, body corporate, partnership firm, LLP and association of persons.
Further the basic exemption of Rs.10 Lac is also not available in case of reverse charge.

16 January 2014 If the Service Receiver is Registered Factory the Service Tax will be paid by the Factory. But if the SR is prop. concern engaged in trading activities then the Service Tax will be deposited by the Service Provider.
