My known had purchased a flat before 15 June. Loan had also been taken before June
Now he want to register his property
Kindly tell me if Service tax is applicable on such registration ?

Since payment was made before 15 june , service tax is applicable.

but the service tax is applicble to builder from 1st of august only.....

On the **service tax on registration of property**, here’s the clear point:
* **Service tax is NOT applicable on the registration of property itself** — registration is a government function attracting stamp duty and registration fees, **not service tax**.
* Service tax applies to **services provided by builders, developers, agents, or contractors**, like construction, brokerage, or real estate services.
* Regarding the date, **service tax on construction of residential/commercial property became applicable from 1st July 2010** (with some notifications from August 2010 onwards).
* But **registration of property (sale deed registration) itself is exempt from service tax** at all times.
So, if your friend purchased the flat and took the loan before June 15, and now just registering the property, **there is no service tax on the registration process**.
Only the builder/developer is liable for service tax on construction services if applicable, not the buyer for registration.
