service tax on packers and movers

05 September 2010 My client is packers and mover, on which service it will come under. and is there any abatement . Pls advice me in this matter, i will be grateful to you.

06 September 2010 The Service of packaging of goods including pouch filling, bottling, labelling or imprinting of the package has been brought under the ST net from 16/06/2005.
However, there is a condition that the process which amounts to manufacture in terms of Sec. 2(f) of the Central Excise Act,1944, then that services are not liable to ST.

There is not abatement under the category of the Packaging of Goods. The basic exemption of Rs. 10 lacs is available. The liability for taking the ST regn. is on the crossing of the limit of Rs. 9 lacs. However, the actual liability for deposit of ST arises after Rs. 10 lacs of service provided during the year only.
