Plz tell me whether service tax is applicable on an organization conducting
- Surveys
- collecting data
- Preparing Reports
FOR THE SOCIAL RESEARCH PUPOSES?
eg. child labour etc.
For this work the organization is charging fee in contract form.

there is no separate taxable service which covers these kind of services, so the same may not be subject to service tax.

If the data is obtained by any commercial organisation for any purpose, then it may be taxable.

The data is pertain to social welfare purpose but whether the organisation is doing any chartiy, or how the data is collected, from whom you are collecting fee, etc.? is importance here.based on the receipt of the same we can decided. whether your services are liable for ST or not.
