14 November 2008 I made e payment of service tax using internet banking facility of SBI. How ever, i could not find option/accounting code for Primary Education Cess or SHEC. Is there such problem with other banks? How do one make e payment, if required to pay PEC and / or SHEC only? Will it be sufficient compliance, if the total amount, ie. S Tax + PEC + SHEC is paid using the accounting code of the related service(eg. Cargo Handling)?

15 November 2008 The bank's site does not have the code for PEC and SHEC.

19 November 2008 No issues,

Make payment in the accounting code of the service which is cargo handling in your case.

Accounting code is just an administrative requirement. In case an amount is paid in wrong accounting code there is no legal default at your part. This was mentioned in a departmental circular.
