central Excise deptt. is doing assmt/Audit of service tax returns of cos.
04 October 2010
Now there is no assessment by the department. It is only self assessment. There is periodical audit by the department. The normal period of limitation is one year but can be extended upto five years in the case of suppression, mis-statement etc.
