A contractor provides service of maintenance of lifts to a company installed by it.Is he liable to VAT in Maharashtra for the materials he purchases to execute the maintenance of lifts?

As per My Opinion WCT is applicable on him.

Yes sir, such services are treated as works contract taxable under vat (for materials) and service tax (for services). Any how, kindly see the wct provision in mvat act.
