11 September 2009 assessee died on 07-08-2009 birth date is 15-11-1944 my question is: whether for A.Y. 2010-2011 can benefit of Exemption limit of 240000 be taken?

11 September 2009 The limit of Rs2.40 lacs is for AY 2010-11 your client's return for that year will apply accordingly.

11 September 2009 The assessee becomes a senior citizen only on 14/11/2009 ie after the date of death. Therefore, my view, is the assessee will not get senior citizens benefit.

11 September 2009 In my opinion age of 65 is to be completed before 31st march to claim the benefit of senior citizen. Therefore in my opinion assessee can get the benefit of senior citizen.

11 September 2009 Agree with B C Warrior, bz assesse died on 7.8.09 but his date of birth is 15.11.09.
As per the provision assesse attaining the age of 65 AT ANY TIME DURING THE YEAR will only allowed for the benefit of senior citizen. In the present case assesse dies on 7.8.09 and there after the liability shifted to representative assesse. So deceased person is not an assesse from 8.8.09.
