02 August 2012 No. The stipend is taxable.

02 August 2012 but tata memorial centre has written in my certificate that it is exempt & also did not deduct TDS ON Rs.4,94,000/- of stipend

02 August 2012 Tata memorial has a separate exemption available. Hence it is exempt. Stipend for Ph.D students is taxable.
