04 December 2011 Hi I have recently received a notice of demand under section 156 of the Income tax Act. I have two queries on the payment that I need to make. If anyone can help me on this.

1) For payment, should I use Challan No. 280 and in that should I tick type of payment as "Tax on Regular Assessment (400)"?

2) Can I make the payment ONLINE through govt incometax website? Or do I need to make the payment ONLY through going to a authorized bank?

One quick query on the same, which I forgot to ask earlier ...

I have received the order on 2nd Dec 2011 by post, and in the order it is mentioned that I need to make the payment within 30 days from the date of order. The date of order was on Sep 2011.

My question is, should 30 days be counted from the date of receiving the order(2nd Dec) or from the order date(Sep 2011)?

04 December 2011 You can count from the date of receipt of order. If you pay till that time also department will not mind or even you can say it will be happy.

(Department = AO)
