23 July 2025 Hey Srihari! About the GST department’s SCN (Show Cause Notice) or query regarding the proof of business premises not matching:

### What the department is saying:

* The **ID proof you uploaded (like electricity bill)** for your business premises is **not matching or not accepted**.
* GST authorities want **proper and valid proof** of your business place.

### What you can do:

1. **Check the uploaded document**:

* Is the electricity bill in the name of the proprietor or the business?
* Does the address exactly match the address you gave in the GST application?
* Sometimes, a utility bill may be rejected if it’s outdated or not in the correct name.

2. **Other acceptable documents for address proof of business premises:**

* **Rent agreement** if premises are rented (along with rent receipts).
* **Property tax receipt**.
* **Municipal corporation trade license**.
* **Shop and Establishment Act registration certificate** (if applicable).
* **No objection certificate (NOC) from the owner**, if applicable.

3. **Regarding Shops and Establishment Act registration:**

* You are *not always* required to have this for GST registration, **but** it is a valid and strong proof of business premises.
* If your state requires Shops & Establishment registration for your type of business, then it’s a good idea to get it and submit that as proof.

4. **What you should do now:**

* Either upload a valid document that clearly shows the address of your business premises matching the GST application.
* Or register under the Shops and Establishment Act if required by local laws and upload that certificate as proof.

---

**Bottom line:**
You do **not necessarily have to register under Shops & Establishment Act** just to get GST registration, but if your electricity bill or other proof is not accepted, submitting the Shops & Establishment registration certificate is a strong alternative.

---

If you want, I can help you draft a response to the GST department or guide you on how to get the Shops & Establishment registration. Need that?
