18 August 2011 I am a resident of city A.
All of my details including passport, PAN includes details like address of city A.

I shift to city Z for employment or a new business.I'll be staying here for some 5-6 years.

Do i update my PAN?
Can the A.O from city A pick my return for scrutiny?
Will i then have to travel all the way to city A for scrutiny..

Also since my residence has temperorily shifted, am i required to intimate or inform the department.

Please also provide any other information you think is relevant.

18 August 2011 It has not been mentioned whether you wish to return in City A.
.
In case you do not have any such plan to return, it is always advisable to get changed your address in the PAN data.
Also intimate the jurisdictional AO by intimating him about your change in the place of employment, and if possible intimate about the jurisdictional ITO of City Z in the same letter.

As e filing is possible nowadays, you can file your return from city Z only.

The period of 5-6 is also a long period so
it is better to change the address in PAN Data.

Also, what is the way out, if i am given a notice for scrutiny before i change my address in PAN to city B.

I do not wish to travel to City A for scrutiny.

Why are you worried , so much about the scrutiny ? . You may think that you are not so lucky that you will get such notices.
