Is it compulsory to file Service tax return after the service becomes non taxable and the assessee has active service tax number?

it is necessary to file Service tax return if there is no Service is provided i.e. nil return as penalty will be imposed for non filing of return

till the time you hold the service tax registration you have to file service tax. file the return and surrender the service tax registration the service is no more taxable.
