05 January 2014 how income tax department know the residential status of person if person is NRI and not disclose his residency?

06 January 2014 It is the assessee (not IT Dept) makes the declaration about his residential status.

The residential status declared by assesee is presumed to be correct unmless and untill challanged by the Dept

(However, Income tax dept has a system of CASS wherein they can get direct report from bankers about Non Rssident Bank Accounts dully mapped with PAN NO)
