I want to know whether Way bill is required for the import of gold from outside india under the West Bengal VAT Act.If No then under which section or rule it has been mentioned.

As per the Deputy commissioner of Salt lake charge way bill is not required on import of gold from outside india. I have not found any rule for the non-requirement of way bill on import of gold from outside india. As per deputy commissioner We can import gold from outside india without requiring way bill But we have to pay tax @1% after the sale of imported gold. Please guide me.

30 December 2011 In case of doubt it is better to take a written clarification from PRO of commercial tax department by writing a letter and meeting him personally.

06 April 2012 You should have IE code for import of Gold and a registered dealer if it is so then no way bill is required and you have to pay the flat rate duty for import
