Requirement of digital signature for partner of a firm

Please let me know whether the digital signatures are mandatory for efiling of ITR by a partner of a firm.

27 September 2012 If the partnership firm is covered under tax audit of section 44AB of the Income tax Act 1961 ,then the return of income of the firm has to be e-filed by affixing the digital signature of the Managing Partner.
