Repeated arrear received, Relief under section 89.

This query is : Resolved

26 July 2020 Respected sir, I got arrear in FY 2017-18 (Rs 230000) for FY 2015-16 and 2016-17, claimed relief u/s 89 also. Now in 2019-20 I again got arreaer for 2015-16,2016-17 and 2017-18. During filling 10e taxable income of 2017-18 should be reduced by arrear amount (Rs 230000) or not . I increased the taxable income of 2015-16 and 2016-17 by adding arraer amount. What to do with taxable income of 2017-18. If I deduct arrear amount slab change occurs to lower percentage. It will give me more tax relief. Please Suggest..

27 July 2020 No need to reduce income of 2017-18. in my view simply increase the income of 2019-20 with arrears and compare without arrears. Same way compare the income of 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 with and without arrears, note down the difference and reduce from the increased liability of 2019-20. Take the enhances original income with arrears (first arrears of 2,30,000) for the year 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 to mitigate any effect of slab rate change.
