rent from own child

22 March 2009 Can a major child gives house rent to his father, so that the rental income can be included in the father's total income?

23 March 2009 1. Yes, you can pay rent to your father (owner of flat)r for flat on which you are residing.
2. It is advisable to take proper receipt and make the payment, as if, through cheque.
3. Such income shall be taxable under the head income from house properties in the hands of your father.
4. You can also claim exemption for rent paid from HRA.
