maximum time limit for filing VAT & CST return. eg. can i fill VAT & CST Return for F.Y. 2001-2002 now??

Commercial tax department always do regular assessments to verify records
Dept. have to do assessments before 4-6 yrs end because they cannot assessed any assessee after expired of time limit of assessment
after assessment dept. take next year not previous year and you are asking for 10 years before.
VAT return has to file in its due date and before assessment.
So, in my view you cannot file vat return now.

i want to file the VAT return for F.Y 2008-09 can i file that?

if assessment is not done then you can file return but you have to paid penalty of late filing
wait for dept.intimation they will intimate you about penalty
