04 January 2017 My friend wants to be registered under service tax. His doubt is whether he simply apply for service tax registration or will he have to take GST registration? Thanks

05 January 2017 Once he applies for ST Registration, during the GST migration, he will get himself migrated to it automatically. Checkout the gst.gov.in website which states the migration process.

My personal suggestion would be is to wait for GST registration to start for your state and then you can register youself in it directly as a new user. This is to avoid the transitional provisions.
