Jurisdiction (AO Code) determines which Assessing Officer handles your tax matters based on your residential address.
It is not printed on the PAN card itself, but it is part of the PAN database.
If your PAN jurisdiction is showing Uttar Pradesh instead of Jammu and Kashmir, it means that either:
Your application (or correction form) had an address in Uttar Pradesh, or
The data was incorrectly processed by NSDL/UTIITSL.
✅ Correct Way to Update PAN Jurisdiction
To correct the jurisdiction, the address linked to the PAN must reflect your correct location. Here's what to do:
📝 Option 1: File PAN Correction (Form 49A or Online)
Go to the NSDL PAN Correction Portal or UTIITSL.
Fill out the "Request for Changes or Correction in PAN Data" form.
Update your residential address to your correct Jammu & Kashmir address.
Upload valid address proof (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Passport, etc.).
Once processed, the jurisdiction will be updated accordingly by the Income Tax Department.

Just filing an ITR with the correct address may not always update the jurisdiction automatically. The jurisdiction update typically happens only when address is corrected in PAN records.
So, the suggestion you received is partially correct, but not reliable if your PAN still reflects the wrong AO code due to address mismatch.
