09 August 2010 A firm purchases raw materials locally from Maharashtra on which it pays excise duty and VAT. After manufacturing, the finished product of metal sheet is intended to be exported.

My question is whether the firm has to first pay the excise duty on finished product produced and then claim refund or no excise duty is to be paid at all.

How to claim refund for excise duty paid on raw materials?

What formalities are required to be done to claim refund?

The firm has taken vat registration for vat refund and will be applying for IEC code.

1. A request letter of the exporter containing claim of refund.
2. Original copy of ARE 1
3. Invoice issued under rule 11
4. Self attested copy of Shipping Bill.
5. Self attested copy of Bill of Lading
6. B.R.C

09 August 2010 the Central Government hereby directs that refund of credit of specified duty allowed in respect of inputs used in or in relation to the manufacture of final products which are cleared for export under bond may be allowed subject to the safeguards, conditions and limitations
