Re:foreign donation/remittance rules

20 October 2018 Respected Experts,
My sister is suffering from CKD(Chronic kidney disease)..Its a very critical illness where both kidneys stop functioning & one needs dialysis to breathe. The second option is kidney transplant. All this is way too expensive for middle-class people like us..There is an organisation in the US willing to help us ..They start an online petition and pass on whatever donors give for our cause..But I can't open a Paypal account coz Im not a trader/freelancer..this money is like donation..But from foreign land..How can I receive it in India? Are there any provisions..Plz help..I need this money v.v. desperately to save my dying sister..Am grateful to all of u for time and advice..Thanx a lot.

20 October 2018 Approch a charitable trust registered under FCRA can help in passing on the donation to you.

23 October 2018 Thankyou so much Sir..But I do have another query if you don't mind.I have an aunt(my mother's cousin sister ) abroad..Can she take this donated money online in her account (thru Paypal or any other relevant method ) and can she then pass it on to us as a remittance from a relative? Plz advise..Thanx once again ..

23 October 2018 Yes but remittance should be received by your mother.

24 October 2018 ThankYou Sir..Since theres no provision of donation as such , should my mother take it as gift so that it is not taxable in my mother's hands in India..Should my aunt prepare a gift deed on a plain paper ? Thanx again.

24 October 2018 Yes it's only gift it can be on plain paper.

24 October 2018 Thank You so much Sir..Can my mother take the money thru cheque in her ordinary Savings account in any bank ? And on the gift deed can my aunt say that she is gifting my mom for her daughter's sickness?
Does my aunt need to also mention the institute etc or she can say that she is gifting of her own will(she works abroad and draws a decent salary)..Thanks once again Sir.

25 October 2018 Yes bank transfer through savings account okay.
she can say that she is gifting of her own will.

01 November 2018 Sorry for the delay in replying Sir..My sister was hospitalised, now she's OK..Thankyou so much Sir for your prompt replies..Thanks for your selfless and kind responses..Thanks a lot..
