06 November 2008 My friend is purchasing a truck, when he goes in RTO office for registration then officer told him that first he has pay the professional tax.Is professional tax applicable? If yes what is criteria?

07 November 2008 This is a surprise. How a new entrant to business/profesion would have paid profession Tax?

07 November 2008 No yar...for truck how PTax will come...may be some other TAx....ask them again and come....

13 November 2008 In Madhya Pradesh there is a liability of Profession Tax if any holders of permit for transport vehicles granted under the Motor Vehicle Act,1988(59 of 1988) which are used or adapted to be used for hire or reward:1.In respect of two heavy passenger or goods vehicle Rs.2,000 per Year. 2. in respect of more than two heavy passenger or goods vehicle Rs. 2,500 per Year.
But as per theProfesion Tax Act,1995 the RTO has no jurisdiction to collect the Profession Tax.
