05 October 2020 What are benefit of surrender of PAN after death of individual PAN holder ?
If not surrendered, any obligations ?
One should not get in touch with department suo moto because they will do scrutiny if we surrender PAN and what department can do, no one knows !!!!

2 No obligations.
3 No srutiny in case of surrender due to death.

05 October 2020 Sir,
My father was passed away in 2017.
20 days before I had given application along with original PAN and death certificate at jurisdictional office for surrender of PAN but status of PAN active till now.
I had taken acknowledgment from department.
How much time department will take to cancel the PAN ?

05 October 2020 Some time department may not take any action. No need to worry even if it's not surrendered.
Try online surrender.

Follow these steps to surrender your PAN card online:
Visit the NSDL website.
From the “Application Type” drop-down, select the “Changes or Correction in existing PAN Data/Reprint of PAN Card (No changes in existing PAN Data)” option.
Fill out the form completely and click the 'Submit' button.
