It seems I did a huge mistake and realised it a little late.
I have two PAN Cards, one which in use about 4 years ago. I lost that PAN applied for a new change and IT Dept. issued new PAN. That was shear carelessness and I agree I should have behaved responsible.
Now the card which was issued to me as a replacement has been in use currently, infact I have never quoted my old PAN after receiving my new one.
I have even applied for cancellation, I have requested IT Dept to cancel my old card which is not in use and infact I don''t even posses.
I would like to understand whether IT Dept will act per request of cancelling my old card or they will decide as to which card to cancel.

Cancellation has to done through NSDL or UTI in a prescribed form called as 'application for new pan card or / any change or correction in pan data' along with any one of the following documents.
i)Copy of PAN card; or ii)Copy of intimation letter issued by the Income Tax Department in lieu of PAN card intimating PAN. iii)In case one of the above proofs are not available, a copy of FIR (stating loss of PAN card) can be submitted.

Thanks for the reply.
I have already done that a couple of weeks ago, I have filled up the form...mentioned the PAN Card number to the cancelled, attached all the proof.
I just want to understand whether ITD will cancel my old card and not the card currently in use.
