I have paid 1800/- extra self assessment tax by mistake. I didn't file ITR till now.
what should I do?
later if I get any intimation showing refund, will it help?

You should file the return and claim the refund.
Intimation is issued only if the assessee has filed a return.
If you do not file the return, you will NOT get an intimation and you will NOT get the refund.
So file the return.

first you can file revised return.(if allready filed wrongly).then you can claim refund from it. and intimation letter comes after filed return.
