Dear Sir,
My Brother received a notice under sec139(9),For ASS Yr 2014-15,that his return defective.While filing return instead of taking salary income he considered it as Professional Income.What are all possibilities to rectify the return.And is there any need to submit request letter to AO regarding these Rectification

Rectify the defect(revise the return) within 15 days of receipt of notice. The rectification is in reply to the notice so attach a covering letter, requesting the AO to accept the rectification.

you can file rectification after receive notice or if return file in due or before due date then file revised return.
