Notice received for not filing itr

Hi , My father received a notice under no section of income tax asking to submit income tax return for AY 11-12 .. my father has been filing returns for every year but he missed this one ... is this a general notice sent to many people ? I m just scared because we have never received any notice like this . There is no section number mentioned on notice .. is this a notice sent to thousands of people ? Please help

did you receive a document signed by an Income Tax Authority either from your jurisdiction or CPC?
If you did have income in that year and you have received a communication bearing a reference number, you may have to file the return giving the said reference number
