LTCG carry forward query

This query is : Resolved

Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies how to handle Long Term Capital Gains (LTCG) when you have losses from a previous year. The general rule is that brought forward losses are adjusted first against current year gains. For example, if you had an £80,000 loss last year and a £20,000 gain this year, your carry forward loss would be £60,000. The ITR utility usually handles this adjustment automatically.

24 August 2025 Dear Sir/ madam,

If I have LTCG form stocks/mutual funds. However I have previous year loss in LTCG.
which amount to carry forward?

example -
Previous year loss - 80000/-
Current year gain - 20000/-

then loss carry forwarded to next year is 60000/-
or
20000/- is below 125000/- then 80000/- will carry forward to next year
kindly confirm

24 August 2025 B/f. loss will get adjusted first; hence c/f loss will be 60K. The adjustment will get auto adjusted in ITR utility.

22 September 2025 Good luck..
