locking a particular cell in excel

Dear all,
I have created a invoice template in excel. While I have been successful in creating an auto incrementing serial number feature, i would like that particular cell to be locked so that the serial number cell is prevented being edited .

go to that particular cell
right click .......> Format cell........> Lock Cell
Go to Tools.........>Protection..........>Protect sheet
and do not allow user to select locked cell
i think it will work
