hello
myself Rohit Taneja from gurgaon persuing CA - PCC,
The last date of filling Service tax returns for the period 1.10.2008 TO 31.03.2009 is 25.04.2009 and as the same day is Saturday and the respective department remains closed on weekend.
my question is - the last date for filling of return would be 24.04.2009 or 27.04.2009?

Since it is not a suddenly declared holiday, and you know very well in advance that the department will not function on 25-4-2009, therefore the deemed due date of filing is 24-4-2009 and not 27-4-2009. Further now e filing is allowed that means you can file on 25-4-2009 upto midnight 11.59 P.M.

In Mumbai the Excise offices are opened on 25-4-2009 also but if they are closed it should be the next day but the view of the department was the previous day.
