12 April 2012 I am a 32 yr old banking professional and have joined CA course through CPT. I am a B.Sc + MBA with 9 yrs. of work-ex in sales.

I joined CA for my interest in Finance that has grown over the years. The reason for me joining the course now is because I had challenging personal commitments to honour until recent past.

I have been a hard-working and above-average student throughout my academic career scoring between 73% & 81% from 10th till MBA. Professionally, I am doing fairly well. During the course of study / after passing out, I want to get into full-fledge d'finance' field.

In a nutshell, am quite interested in the subject of Finance and I have a deep-seated desire to rise up to the rank of a CFO, COO or MD and run an organization. And I do appreciate that to reach the stage, I must have a very very thorough 'application' knowledge of the financial nitty-gritties that are embedded in a company's balance sheet.

Now the reason for my post! The only bottleneck that I find is the 3-year articleship. If I move into the Finance domain / department of my current organization before I pass IPCC - Level II, will that count as an articleship? I hope the experts of this forum will appreciate that it's practically difficult to leave a regular-paying job and survive on stipends.

What I expect you to advise me is if this clause can be negotiated with ICAI at the appropriate time of registering for articleship.

Joining CA is a good move to explore yourself. However as per my understanding there is no exemption as far as 3 years articleship is concerned.

You should personally vist ICAI or have a chat with ICAI officials regarding this.
