Itr filing ay 2012-13 (new cell-tax status)

22 June 2012 Sir,
Can any one explain why this new cell (Tax Status) is being introduced in ITR of AY 2012-13?
Filing returns with Tax payable option is considered as invalid or defective return, so what is the use of that option with Tax payable Status?
Please do reply to my query.

22 June 2012 Defects can be rectified. The return is being filed for the purpose of assessment of the income. When the amount of Income changes, the Tax amount will also vary accordingly. Ultimately it is the assessee who has to meet his obligation by paying the taxes due sooner or later, or on regular assessment basis or on self assessment basis.

So, by not paying the SA tax, the return is not going to be invalid. Further, the assessee is a Permanent Customer of the Department having a unique PAN. He can pay tax on demand or before completion of assessment.
