18 July 2012 IT return of a deceased person should be filed by the legal representative. As the person in this case has died in May-11, his LR can file his return in his own name. For this purpose you have to sent a mail to efiling.administrator@incometaxindia.gov.in along with the documentary evidences (in scanned format) i.e. death certificate of the deceased assessee. After receiving these details by the e-filing administrator, the LR’s PAN will be linked to the deceased assessee and a confirmation email will be sent to email id of the LR and then only, the return of the deceased assessee can be filed electronically by LR.
