If expenses are disallowed in your Income Tax Return due to non-deduction of TDS, an Income Tax Officer can ask you to show cause why you shouldn't be considered an 'assessee in default'. While you've disallowed the expense under Section 40(a)(i), you may still be required to deduct and pay the TDS along with interest, potentially claiming the expense in the following year.
