This discussion addresses a common issue where interest has been paid via challan but not accurately reflected in the GSTR 3B return. The core question is whether the actual payment or its inclusion in the GSTR 3B is more critical. It's clarified that interest must either be shown in the GSTR 3B or paid voluntarily through the DRC-03 form if it was missed in the return.
We have paid interest in challan but failed to show the same in GSTR 3B return, now the officer is asking that it is not reflecting in GSTR 3B, can someone suggest whether making payment is criteria or showing the same in 3B is important.

Until and unless you show it in GSTR 3B, same will not reflected on Portal. However if you have already paid it then you can pay it through DRC -03

You have to either show your interest in GSTR 3B otherwise you have to pay it voluntarily through DRC -03. For DRC-03 , Go to user services> My Application> New Application> FIl details and paid interest voulntarily u/s 73(5)
