07 August 2012 can both husband and wife who are joint holders of a self occupied property claim interest and claim benefit of rs150000/ only .

07 August 2012 There is divide of opinion on this issue. Many feel that the deduction is property based, hence should be claimed by first named person only. A well argued case law needs to be knocked at the doorsteps of tribunal or high courts. The arguement should be on the lines of where share in the house oproperty is defined by the owners, then each should be able to claim the deduction of 150000
