Income tax refund (urgent)

03 March 2013 Income tax return of my mother for FY 2011-12 was filed by me in june 2012 claiming a refund of Rs. 7000/-. But yesterday department mail me intimation u/s 245 containing the fact of demand of Rs. 6100/- related to AY 2003-04 which they adjusted with refund amount. Now, help me how the said demand will be cancel or is there any alternative available for me.

Yes IT dept can adjust tax recoverable against Tax refund due to an assessee.

If you think there is error in calculating tax for AY 2003-04 then you have to reply to ITO with facts.
