Is it possible to get the information of income tax payments or ITR of an individual under RTI.

18 August 2012 No. Income tax returns are outside the purview of RTI since these pertains to personal confidential information of the assessees.

On the lighter side, do you think our bureaucrats and politicians will offer such a leeway that may get their personal info in the public domain?

18 August 2012 No,Information relating to a taxpayer was once treated as secret. Sec. 137 had prohibited disclosure of any information not only relating to the return but also any accounts, documents, statements, affidavits and depositions made during the course of assessment.
