i am thinking of importing footwears to India . Footwears are a sales tax / vat free if the value is below Rs. 200

my query is can i import footwears without having a Vat no.

PLEASE NOTED THAT REQUIREMENT OF VAT NO. IS NOT MANDATORY FOR IMPORT PURPOSE.

IN LIEU OF IT, IEC CODE IS MANDATORY.

03 July 2010 Thanks for the reply Mr Ramesh , i can import with the help of IEC code agreed , and then the customs or any other government department may ask the details of how i sold the goods , as my company is new and a small trading company i havent taken the vat number as yet
so is it advisable to import
