A person applied for IE code in 2001 in the name of X in chennai. after that he closed that business and open a new business in the name of Y in erode. but now he tried to apply IEC in Directrate of Foreign Trade web site its saying IEC of X business is still running in your PAN. Now how can we get new IEC or shall i update the old IEC with new business name? what is the proceedure for this ?

Inform the changes to Jt DGFT of your region and get the IEC cancelled than apply for new IEC.

IN THE LIGHT OF CURRENT FOREIGN TRADE POLICY, YOU SHOULD MODIFY THE IEC CODE EITHER SETUP A NEW COMPANY FROM A NEW NAME.

It seems the Company is propritorship and the PAN of the individual was used. Other firm also, it seems, is propritorship and they are trying to use the sam PAN. The only way is to surrender the IEC and apply for a fresh one.
